Robotics and E-FIT Challenges
Twelve of Bradford Academy’s ‘Gifted and Talented’ learners from Years 8 and 9 enjoyed a challenge day at Leeds Beckett University last week to increase their awareness of the application of Science and Technology.
The learners joined other students from Carlton Bowling and Bradford Girls Grammar in mixed groups to undertake practical activities that developed skills needed in the work place. They competed against the other groups with marks being awarded for planning, teamwork and the finished product.
Emma Park, DoPL for Art, Design and Technology, was pleased to report that one of our teams won a police E-FIT challenge where they witnessed a simulated crime then used police software to construct a computer image of the thief.
She went on to say: “The day was a great success and encouraged learners to think about their learning in a completely different way. Some of them had no idea just how many possibilities there are for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) students at university. They also got a tour of the university and spent time with current students.”
