Top of the Charts for Performing Arts

The Performing Arts department have had a busy start to the year with a variety of internal and external competitions and events.

At the end of January, year 7 and 8 students from Bradford Academy had the opportunity to compete against each other in ‘So, You Think You Can Dance?’. It allowed learners the freedom to choreograph their own dances to the music they love. During the heats, encouragement and advice were given to allow learners to develop their pieces ready for the final. The four judges were Miss. Bates, Mr. McLocklan and two Post-16 dance students – Daniela and Corinna. First place was awarded to a solo piece by John in Year 7.

A group of year 7 learners were also given the opportunity to compete at the Northern heats of the Great Big Dance Off – a national competition for all schools in England and Wales. They placed mid-table in the event at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax on 2nd February.

Also securing a place in the finals of a competition, the choir and acoustics group performed in the semi-finals of the Bradford Festival of Talent competition. They will compete in the finals at the beginning of March.
