Monday 7th November 2017 saw a group of our Performing Arts star learners present their interpretation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ as part of the National Schools’ Shakespeare Festival project at the Carriageworks, Leeds.
As part of the journey of creating the performance, the learners took part in a full day acting workshop led by professional actors and directors that focused on techniques and strategies to understand the text and develop their characterisation skills. They then were asked to work together to interpret the script in their own way. The theme of the 1980’s was selected with the lead male roles taking their costume inspiration from the classic 80’s film, ‘An officer and a Gentleman’ and the lead females picking their costumes to channel Madonna and other well known music artists of the day. With a backing-track of suitable 80’s hits, the show came to life and captured the learners imagination and enthusiasm
After the performance, the cast were sent an appraisal by the festival director. We are all very proud of their achievement.
