Thursday 10th May saw a moment that would go down in History as Bradford Academy hosted its first ever Year 11 Graduation! The formal event was held in the School assembly hall, which had undergone a makeover to mark the occasion.
Year 11 students gathered in the hall along with teachers and pastoral staff, including lead on the event Miss Salma Sharif, who opened followed by Chaplain Rob Taylor who led the year group in Prayer.
Students were treated to inspirational and motivational speeches from the staff who have been working with them for the past 5 years, as well as a particularly moving speech from an ex student, including a quote from a poem studied at GCSE English – much to his previous English teachers delight! Head Boy and Head Girl also addressed their classmates.
A number of students nominated by staff received ‘Be the Best’ awards in kindness, preparedness, punctuality, respectfulness, being presentable, engagement and safety to mark their commitment to Bradford academy values over the past 5 years.
Head boy, Head girl and award winners wore the traditional graduation attire of cap and gown – complete with a Bradford Academy embroidered sash! All students received an engraved parker pen, which we hope they will use in their upcoming exams, and a graduation tassel as a memoir of the event and of their time spend at Bradford Academy.
It was a real pleasure to celebrate the immense hard work that has been put in by year 11 and all of their teachers and staff who work with them, as well as a fantastic way to raise their aspirations and awareness around where Bradford Academy alumni have progressed. We hope this event has allowed Year 11 to re-focus and see the upcoming examinations as the first step towards achieving their goals.
