Chaplaincy

Faith – The Vital Ingredient

At Bradford Academy faith is a vital part of the learning journey.  Students observe a period of silence each day in order to reflect, pray and give thanks.

We have a dedicated space in the school, the sacred space which all staff and students can access. This space has been designed by staff and students and reflects the diversity of faiths in our community.

Bradford academy

Our former Chair of Governors, Mr Albert Price, has written a prayer which students are encouraged to reflect upon:

A Prayer for Bradford Academy

Lord we thank you for this Academy
We pray and work to make it
A place where all are affirmed and valued
A loving and just community

Lord we thank you for this Academy
We pray and work to make it
A place where all are free from discrimination
A loving and just community

Lord we thank you for this Academy
We pray and work to make it
A place where all have access to all learning
A loving and just community

Lord we thank you for this Academy
We pray and work to make it
A place at peace and true to its beliefs
A loving and just community

Rob Taylor – Academy Chaplain

Rob taylor

I’m Rob Taylor and I am the school Chaplain.

Faith and spirituality is a massive area, but the things that are on offer to promote this to teenagers in today’s society are often not very dynamic or relevant. I want to ensure that what we do in the Academy addresses this.

Core Purpose:

Pastor to the Community

  • To be involved. To live life alongside all members of the Academy community, supporting where necessary, but also encouraging all to celebrate life both in and out of school.
  • To promote God, faith and spirituality throughout the whole school e.g. via input into assemblies, classrooms, briefings, ‘Bigger Things’ emails.
  • To encourage/maintain emotional and/or spiritual health, to enable all to be successful learners and responsible members of the Academy community and society.
  • To be the promoter of and gatekeeper for our Sacred Space area.
  • To play a leading role in navigating major events i.e. bereavements or world events such as the Japan Tsunami or 9/11 Remembrance.
  • To assist with and accept referrals to deliver 1-1 support for students and/or staff.
  • To generate the Thought for the Week thoughts/images and prayers, ensuring that every faith group is represented and all major festivals are celebrated.
  • To be the gatekeeper for and promoter of our Sacred Space.

To Value All

  • To ensure that our strap-line of Every Learner Known, Valued and Understood extends to all members of the Academy community and beyond.

Part of the Multi-Professional Team.

  • To assist with and accept referrals to deliver 1-1 support for students.
  • Maintain effective records and contribute to monitoring procedures.
  • Liaise with families, carers, Multi-Professional Team, relevant staff and external agencies, in accordance with all of the above.
