Key Learning Objectives A) Explore the use of branding and the promotional mix in business Exam Content: A) understand the costs involved in business and how businesses make a profit
Key Activities / Homework Coursework: The learners completing this course in the Access course will do all elements in 1 year. (3 Units Coursework, 1   Exam based Unit) Learners will have a wide range of activities to complete in order to prepare for the coursework assessment at the end of each topic.   Carousels, workbooks,   Presentations Topics Covered: Learners will research the   importance of branding to a business.   Promotion within the business, the 4 P’s also elements of the promotional mix. Learners will then need to apply their knowledge to a well known business and support this with research. Learners will plan to set up their own business in order to do this they will need to think of their initial idea. At this stage they will need to research branding methods and techniques they will use. How they will promote their brand and design the promotional material they would use. Justifying chosen methods. Exam Content: A range of activities will be in place to teach learners the content that may arise in the exam. Carousels, workbooks, practice exam questions. Topics covered: Understanding the costs involved in business, how businesses make a profit. Learners will be given real life business situations to which they must apply their knowledge. They will be able to explain how a business may become more profitable
Assessments All learners must complete coursework in lesson but also as part of their homework. Assignment 1: Branding and Promotion Assignment 2: Developing and Promoting My Brand Exam Content: In class Assessments: October 2015. December 2015 March 2016 Official Exam: January 2016 May 2016

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives A) know how trends and the current business environment may impact on a business B) plan an idea for a new business C) present a business model for a business start-up. Exam Content B) understand how businesses plan for success
Key Activities / Homework Coursework: Learners will have a wide range of activities to complete in order to prepare for the coursework assessment at the end of each topic.   Carousels, workbooks, Presentations Learners will need to research the different factors that need to be considered in the current business environment. (National and Local) Learner will also be tasked with researching different trends that can affect a business (Social, Technology, Environmental and Ethical trends will be included) Learners will then need to present their information to the class. Learners will develop their initial business idea further now when they do market research for their business to assess the suitability, they will look into the type of finances that will need to be acquired. While producing the initial plan they will also need to research their competitors, who their customers will be. Learners will research plan and design a promotional campaign and evaluate the overall effectiveness of a promotional campaign for a brand and recommend some improvements that could be made. Exam Content A range of activities will be in place to teach learners the content that may arise in the exam. Carousels, workbooks, practice exam questions. Topics covered: Understanding and being able to us the planning tools that businesses use i.e. Breakeven formula and charts (being able to draw and interpret them, Profit and loss accounts. Learners will complete budgets and learn how a cash flow forecast works (and complete one.)

Term 3
Key Learning Objectives A) know about job roles and functional areas in business B) produce documentation for specific job roles C) demonstrate interview skills and plan career development Exam Content C) understand how businesses measure success and identify areas for improvement..
Key Activities / Homework Learners will have a wide range of activities to complete in order to prepare for the coursework assessment at the end of each topic.   Carousels, workbooks, Presentations, producing documents for recruitment. This is an excellent unit to allow learners to plan their next steps/career path once they finish school. Coursework: Learners will start off by researching a well known business and their organisational structure and different functional areas, they will need to explain how different areas work together and how they all help to achieve different company aims. They will then begin to research the different types of job roles a company has and their responsibilities. Learners will then start focusing on a specific job role that they would like to pursue. They will need to research and produce Job Descriptions and Person specifications. They will also need to justify there effectiveness in recruiting employees. Learners will learn how to compile a CV, Letter of application and how to fill an application form. Learners will be tasked with completing a skills audit to assess their skills and which they still need to develop. Learners will prepare interview questions and take part in a formal interview as part of their coursework. Finally learners will compile a career development plan Exam Content: A range of activities will be in place to teach learners the content that may arise in the exam. Carousels, workbooks, practice exam questions. Topics covered: Learners will focus more here on how to complete a profit and loss account, they will learn and be able to complete and analyse all other financial statements such as the balance sheet.
