Child Development

BTEC Edexcel Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development. Equivalent to 1 A Level (360 Guided learning hours).
1 x external examination:
-unit 1 – child development worth 120 GLH.

5 x internally assessed units:
– unit 2 – play and learning
– unit 3 – meeting children’s physical development, physical care and health needs
– unit 4 – health and safety
– unit 8 – safeguarding in early years
– unit 9 – observation, assessment and planning

Students will undertake 50 hours of assessed work experience in an early years setting.

 

Year 12

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the fundamentals of child development and theories of child development. To know and understand how play impacts child development.
Key Activities / Homework Students will complete various tasks such as booklets, case studies and exam style questions as part of unit 1. Homework will include exam style questions, revision and creating revision materials. Students will be completing a variety of assignments for unit 2 including written reports, power-point presentations, posters, leaflets and articles that focus on the key learning objectives. Homework includes completing written assignments to meet the deadlines.
Assessments Unit 1 is an externally assessed exam in June. In class assessments will include exam style questions, past exam papers and grades pieces of work. Unit 2 is internally assessed and will be graded using the pass, merit and distinction criteria. This will include a variety of assignments such as written report, leaflets and power-point presentations.

Key Activities / Homework Students will be completing a variety of assignments for unit 4 including written reports, power-point presentations, posters, leaflets and articles that focus on the key learning objectives. Homework includes completing written assignments to meet the deadlines. Students will be completing a variety of tasks for unit 9 including written reports, power-point presentations, posters, leaflets and articles that focus on the key learning objectives. The main task when looking at unit 9 is to complete 50 hours of work experience in an early Years setting.
