Performing Arts

The course is highly practical in nature and aims to engage the learners in developing the acting skills and technics required to perform within a professional production.

Year 12

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Learners opting for Acting at Level 3 study a BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) course. This course is broadly equivalent to one A Level. Learners study 6 units over the two year course. In year 12 the learners start the year with Drama Improvisation. this unit ask them to present a variety of improvised Drama pieces as solo, pair or group performances
Key Activities / Homework Learners will be set regular homework specific to the unit they are studying. This may be a practical or written based task. Learners may also be given specific assignment work to complete outside of lesson time.
Assessments Learners will be set regular homework specific to the unit they are studying. This may be a practical or written based task. Learners may also be given specific assignment work to complete outside of lesson time.
Suggest reading & support materials Learners will be directed by their teacher to specific support materials and suggested readings. There are also opportunities for further development in Acting in which learners can access specific electives and performance opportunities.

 

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives In term two learners study ‘Actions For Actors.’ ¬† This unit introduces the learner to the professional standards required for industry practice. It covers acting techniques and specifically how to audition for university courses and/or work in the industry.

Assessments Learners will be set regular homework specific to the unit they are studying. This may be a practical or written based task. Learners may also be given specific assignment work to complete outside of lesson time.

Year 13

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Learners study the ‘Classical Performance’ unit and are introduced to Greek Theatre and Elizabethan Theatre. They are required to perform two pieces of text from each play studied.

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives n term two learner’s apply their improvisation skills to devising their own performance. The Devising plays unit asks them to create, organise and plan their own piece of performance from a given stimuli

Term 3
Key Learning Objectives n term three the Learners’ are introduced to the theory and practice of several practioners within the performing arts industry. This unit provides the learner with the expertise and historical background required when developing work from different playwrights and practitioners.
