Year 10 and 11 – GCSE – 40% external examination, 60% Controlled Assessment. Unit 1 – Growth and Development, Unit 2 – Provision of health and social care services.

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the development through the life stages from infancy to later adulthood
Key Activities / Homework Gaining an understanding of growth and development through the life stages. Key activities include Magazine making for adolescence, creating leaflets about Early Childhood and sorting milestones relating to Infancy. Homework include exam style questions on the life stages, research for the magazine task, case studies on Dementia.
Assessments mock style test on growth and development in infancy, assessed leaflet on early childhood, assessed magazine, whole topic mock test on development through the life stages.

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the service provision and needs of individuals. To know and understand how to write a controlled assessment
Key Activities / Homework Gaining an understanding of service provision in health and social care including hospitals, social services and early years settings. Students will be given a scenario surrounding a HSC service (this is provided by the exam board). Students will be expected to complete a number of written assessments surrounding the needs and the service of a particular service user. Homework include research tasks for their controlled assessment such as researching the service being used.
Assessments Controlled assessment – Assignment 1 will include a written report on the service user and their needs. Assignment 2 will include a written report about the service provider and how provision is set up and offered. Assignment 2 will also include a power-point presentation on the referral process and the barriers to referral of the service user.
