Music

The aim of Music at Bradford Academy is to give every Learner an experience of Music, both traditional, world and contemporary and allow all Learners to enjoy all aspects of the world of Music.

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Learners are to start preparing for their first performance for a solo instrument, as well as starting to work with their instrumental tutor in small groups or one to one. Learners begin to study a variety of styles of music to develop their understanding of music at a GCSE level.
Key Activities / Homework Activities include: instrumental practice techniques, discussion of musical terms and the relation to musical styles such as Western Classical and Popular Song. Learners are required to practice their chosen regularly through the week as directed by their instrumental tutor.
Assessments Learners are assessed via short composition submission, listening activities and performance submission.
Suggest reading & support materials Students are encouraged to listen to a variety of genres to review their understanding, as well as seek guidance from music staff to ensure development across all aspects of their musical development.

 

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives Learners will develop their first composition coursework piece. This piece begins as a Ground Bass, but through the term Learners are encouraged to develop ideas and use Music Technology to review their work and promote independent creative development.
Key Activities / Homework Learners will receive regular feedback on their composition coursework via video feedback to relate to their music technology work. Learners will also receive feedback relating to their performance work through their weekly instrumental lesson, and solo performance submission to their class teacher.
Assessments Students are encouraged to listen to a variety of genres to review their understanding, as well as seek guidance from music staff to ensure development across all aspects of their musical development.

Term 3

Assessments Learners will sit a full mock exam to focus on their terminology use and understanding. Learners will also complete an ensemble performance.
