If you can play an instrument, want to learn an instrument, and you are interested in learning more about the Music Business, the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 in Music is the course for you!

 

What will I study?

You will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in Music. The course selected will be the one that best matches the learners to ensure they achieve the greatest possible outcome. BTEC Music helps learners develop technical and expressive skills as well as knowledge and understanding of Music through performance, use of Industry-standard Music Technology, as well as the understanding of the current Music Business. The four unit specification enables learners to increase their confidence and self‐esteem, employ the skills of problem solving and creativity and make knowledgeable decisions about Music. This course will require you to complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

 

What skills will I develop?

The study of Music as an art form contributes to a learner’s aesthetic and social development. As a performer, you will develop performance awareness as well as sensitivity to others and team working skills. As a choreographer, you will develop problem‐solving skills. In directing or working with others, you will develop your interpersonal and communication skills. Viewing professional musicians will broaden your cultural and artistic experience.

You will learn to sing or play an instrument so you are ready to perform in front of an audience, for which you will have one to one tuition from a specialist music teacher for your chosen instrument whether it be voice, guitar (acoustic, electric or bass), drum kit, brass or piano.

 

What qualifications will I need to progress onto this course?

It would benefit someone who has already represented Bradford Academy or other establishments in Performing Arts, but this is not essential. Enthusiasm, energy, and an interest in variety of Music styles, in particular Popular Music, is essential.

 

What skills do I need to be successful?

You will be an enthusiastic Music learner who is fully committed to Performing Arts. You will be self‐disciplined and be able to work independently. You will be prepared to perform your work to other Musicians, and to an audience. You will need to be creative, and with guidance be able to rehearse Music pieces, as well as enthusiastic with Music Technology and IT.

 

How will this course be assessed?

You will undertake four units over the course to achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* grade at Level 2 BTEC, which is equivalent to A* to C at GCSE.

All units are assessed, graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded by your subject teacher. Three of the units are assessed internally and one unit is assessed externally. You will produce evidence to show you have met the criteria at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. This will be a mixture of practical and written work.

 

What course can I progress onto after completing?

This course provides a strong foundation to further Level 3 courses in Music and Performing Arts including Level 3 BTEC Music and A‐level Music, in addition to Higher education in Music, Performing Arts and community activities.

 

What careers can a qualification in this course lead to?

Both courses provide learners with knowledge of the subject and the specialist skills necessary to continue their professional education in Music.
