Sport (BTEC)

Within Sport there are two Options; GCSE Physical Education and BTEC Level 2 Sport.  Both of our KS4 qualifications lead onto BTEC Level 3 Sport within Post 16.

Unit 1 Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Know about the components of fitness and the principles and explore different fitness training methods.
Key Activities / Homework Students will develop an understanding of fitness components and training methods through practical based theory sessions. Homework will be examination practise questions and research tasks.
Assessments Students will be assessed through internal half termly exam based assessments.

Unit 1 Term 2
Key Learning Objectives Investigate fitness testing to determine fitness levels.
Key Activities / Homework The theory based activities will be supported with practical fitness testing methods such as Illinois agility test, multi stage fitness test and many more. Students homework will be task based and also revision in preparation for the upcoming exam.
Assessments Students will be assessed through internal half termly exam based assessments. In addition students will complete their external examination.

Unit 2 Term 1
Key Learning Objectives To be able to practically demonstrate skills, techniques and tactics in selected sports.
Key Activities / Homeworks Students will develop skills, techniques and tactics within both Rounders and Football through drills and games based activities. Homework will be rules based research.
Assessments Practical assessment in both Rounders and Football. Students will be assessment in their level of skills and techniques along with their demonstration of rules and tactics in games based situations.

Unit 2 Term 2
Key Learning Objectives To be able to review sports performance.

To be able to demonstrate knowledge of technical and tactical knowledge in sport.

Key Activities / Homework Students will learn how to assess performance. They will then undertake a peer and self-assessment of their performance and subsequently evaluate their results. In addition students will demonstrate their knowledge of technical aspects of rounders and football along with their knowledge of the tactics found in both sports.
Assessments Students will be assessed through two controlled assessments. Firstly they will create a method to self and peer assess then evaluate their findings from peers assessment documents. In addition, they will create a handbook through which they will demonstrate their knowledge of techniques and tactics found in rounders and football.

Unit 2 Term 3
Key Learning Objectives Understand the rules, regulations and scoring systems for selected sports
Key Activities / Homework Students will learn in detail about the rules, regulations and scoring systems in both Rounders and Football. Students will also develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of officials in rounders and football. Homework will be rule application scenarios.
Assessments Students will be assessed within a controlled assessments project that will require students to create a handbooks for both Rounders and Football.
