Travel & Tourism

The travel and tourism qualification gives learners the opportunity to explore the world around them. Units studied in the course give the learners a chance to investigate tourism in the UK and internationally.

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives 1. Know UK travel and Tourism destinations and gateways.

2. Investigate the appeal of UK tourism destinations for different types of visitors.

3. Plan UK Holidays to meet the needs of different visitors

Key Activities / Homework Learners will have a wide range of activities to complete in order to prepare for the coursework assessment at the end of each topic

The learners completing this course in Year 10/11 will do all coursework elements in year 1. (3 Units Coursework) They will then cover the exam based content in Year 11. (1 Exam   based Unit)

Activities include:

Being able to accurately locate destinations, airports, seaports and motorways in the UK.

Researching routes of travel across a range of transport options.

Homework assignments are based around coursework

Researching destinations in the UK and explaining the appeal to different visitor types

Planning UK holidays, arranging accommodations, attractions, facilities and transport links for visitors.

Assessments Learners will need to complete three assignments independently:

Assignment 1:

Travel and Tourism destinations and gateways in the UK. Series of Maps

Assignment 2:

The Appeal of UK Tourism Destinations – Brochure

Assignment 3:

Sources of Information and UK Holiday Planning

Term 2

2. Investigate the appeal of international travel and tourism destinations to different visitor types.

3. Be able to plan international travel to meet the needs of visitors.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will have a wide range of activities to complete in order to prepare for the coursework assessment at the end of each topic.

Activities include:

Being able to accurately locate different continents, international airports and sea ports (international)

Creating a brochure about European/Worldwide destinations.

Homework assignments are based around coursework.

Planning international holidays, arranging accommodations, attractions, facilities and transport links for visitors.

Role plays justifying your chosen destinations.

Term 3

2. Explore the needs and expectations of different types of customers in the travel and tourism sector

3. Understand the importance of customer service to travel and tourism organisations.

Key Activities / Homework Researching customer service aims of three different visitor attractions

Comparing and contrasting these companies

Researching and presenting your research on the needs of different visitor types

Exploring businesses that ‘go beyond’

Researching the skills and techniques required in different businesses. How does having high quality customer service impact on the businesses
