Yr10  learners are studying AQA GCSE Science A -Biology  Unit 1 (25% of GCSE grade)  Chemistry Unit 1 (25% of GCSE grade), Physics  Unit1 (25% of GCSE grade) Investigative skills assessment (25% of GCSE grade)

Key Learning Objectives Know and understand what the body needs to maintain its health.

Know and understand that the nervous system and hormones enable us to respond to external changes and maintain conditions inside the body.

Know and understand organisms are well adapted to survive. biomass as it passes along the food chain.

Know and understand the carbon cycle

Know and understand how characteristics are inherited.

Know and understand the theory of evolution.

Key Activities / Homework’s Learners will complete exam questions, six mark long answer questions and group work. Within the biology topic students will learn how to perform aseptic technique and complete an investigate into the most effective cleaning product.

Assessments Each half term all learners will complete a set of long answer six mark questions which will be directly linked to the key learning objectives for the term.

Each half term learners will complete an end of progress checker to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses.

Mocks will be completed in November.

Know and understand how metals are extracted from metal ore and their uses in the modern world.

Know and understand how crude oil is fractionally distilled and how the products can be cracked to produce useful products.

Know and understand the advantages and disadvantages of fuels.

Know and understand the structure of the earth and its atmosphere.

Key Activities / Homework’s Learners will complete exam questions, six mark long answer questions and group work. Within the chemistry topic students will learn how materials from the earth are extracted, separated and adapted to suit the needs of the modern world. Learners will complete investigations into fractional distillation, cracking and emulsions.

Know and understand the uses of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Know and understand current evidence suggests that the universe is expanding and that matter and space expanded violently and rapidly from a very small initial ‘point’, i.e. the universe began with a ‘big bang’.

Key Activities / Homework’s Learners will complete exam questions, six mark long answer questions and group work. Within the physics topic students will learn how energy is used in modern life including the different ways of generating electricity and how it is used in the home. The students will complete investigations such as specific heat capacity and efficiency of bouncing balls
