Year 11 – GCSE – 40% external examination, 60% Controlled Assessment. Unit 1 – Growth and Development, Unit 2 – Provision of health and social care services.

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the different factors that affect growth and development. To know and understand the different relationships through the life stages. To know and understand self-concept and how self-concept is formed. To know and understand life events that can impact the life stages. To know and understand the support available to deal with life events.
Key Activities / Homework Students will gain an understanding of the different factors such as economic, environmental and psychological factors that impact growth and development. Students will then move on to completing a booklet looking at the different relationships throughout the life stages and how relationships may go wrong. Students will then look at self-concept and create a collage looking at their own self-concept. They will look in depth at how self-esteem and self-image can impact growth and development. Students will then look at life events such as divorce, illness, marriage and redundancy. They will look at the impact on growth and development and what support is available to deal with these events. This will completed as a leaflet challenge. Homework is a selection of case studies that look at the different topics every two weeks. These are assessed according to the GCSE mark scheme.
Assessments All assessments are exam style questions relating to the topic. These will be assessed according to the GCSE mark scheme and grading accordingly. Mock exam will be sat in January for the whole of unit 1.

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the different workers who work in the service written about in the controlled assessment. To know and understand the care values that these workers use in their provision. To know and understand how to evaluate the service provision for the chosen service user.
Key Activities / Homework Gaining an understanding of the key workers who work for the service provision. Activities include research tasks and key worker visits. Students will also complete a care values booklets and write specifically regarding their chosen workers. Students will also independently complete an evaluation of the service provider and the service user.
Assessments Controlled assessment – Assignment 3 – will include a written report on the two chosen workers and how they use care values in their job roles. Assignment 4 – will be an evaluation of the service provider and service user. Controlled assessment is work 60% of the overall GCSE grade.

Term 3
Key Learning Objectives To know and understand the skills required in achieving the best possible exam grade
Key Activities / Homework Students will complete a number of past exam papers to prepare them for the GCSE HSC examination. Students will be given a whole cohort mock exam in May. Homework includes past exam papers, case studies and revision booklet materials.
Assessments Past paper mock test and GCSE examination worth 40% of the overall GCSE HSC in June.
