Year 11 learners are studying AQA GCSE Physics – Physics Unit 1 (25% of GCSE grade) Physics Unit 2 (25% of GCSE grade), Physics Unit3 (25% of GCSE grade) Investigative skills assessment (25% of GCSE grade)

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Know and understand that physics has many applications in the field of medicine, which include the uses of X-rays and ultrasound for scanning, and of light for image formation with lenses and endoscopes.

Know and understand many things, from simple toys to complex fairground rides, are constructed from basic machines such as the lever.

Know and understand electric currents produce magnetic fields.

Know and understand the motor effect and that transformers are used to provide the required potential difference.

Key Activities / Homework’s Learners will complete exam questions, six mark long answer questions and group work. Within the physics topic students will learn how to draw ray diagrams, understand the science behind correcting vision and calculate mechanical advantage.

Homework will be set via http://my.dynamic-learning.co.uk

Assessments Each half term all learners will complete a set of long answer six mark questions which will be directly linked to the key learning objectives for the term.

Each half term learners will complete an end of progress checker to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. Mocks will be completed in March.

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives Know and understand how to design a hypothesis

Know and understand how to plan and research a investigation.

Know and understand the variables within an investigation.

Know and understand the importance of controlling variables within an investigation.

Know and understand how to collect and record data.

Know and understand how to present data and make valid conclusions.

Key Activities / Homework’s Learners will complete research into a hypothesis of their own design. The learners will safely carry out the investigation collecting reliable data.

Learners will then present their data in a suitable format and draw conclusions from the data.

Assessments Learners will sit two GCSE controlled assessment exams at the end of the term.

This piece of work is worth 25% of their GCSE.

Key Learning Objectives In this term learners will focus on exam techniques, the lessons will be personalised to the learners to improve their knowledge before the exam in May.

Assessments Learners will we continuously assessed before the exams to identify areas of weaknesses in their subject knowledge
