Sport (BTEC)

Within Sport there are two Options; GCSE Physical Education and BTEC Level 2 Sport.  BTEC Level 2 Sp   Both of our Key Stage Four qualifications lead onto BTEC Level 3 Sport within Post 16.

Term 1
  Year 11     Unit 3 Year 11     Unit 6
Key Learning Objectives Investigate personality and its effect on sports performance and explore the influence that motivation and self-confidence have on sports performance. Know the attributes associated with successful sports leadership
Key Activities / Homework Students will complete a number of theory based activities, including personality tests and evaluations of different types of personality. Students will complete theory based tasks, analysing good and poor leadership styles. In addition the qualities and characteristics of a leader and discuss practical examples of the different qualities.
Assessments Students will be assessed through a controlled assessment in which they will create a blog about Personality and the impact it has on sport. Students will be assessed through a controlled assessment.

Term 2
  Year 11     Unit 3 Year 11     Unit 6
Key Learning Objectives Explore the influence that motivation and self-confidence have on sports performance and know about arousal and anxiety, and the effects they have on sports performance Undertake the planning and leading of sports activities.
Key Activities / Homework Students will complete a number of theory based activities that focus around how sports participants are motivated and the impact of self-confidence and self-efficacy. Students will develop an understanding of how to plan a sporting session and what is expected to make up a sports session. This will be done through practical sessions; breaking down the makeup of a session; warm up, skills and games based activities.
Assessments Students will be assessed through a controlled assessment that requires them to produce a speech. Students will be assessed on the planning of their own sports session and leading of their session to other students.

Term 3
  Year 11     Unit 3 Year 11     Unit 6
Key Learning Objectives Know about arousal and anxiety, and the effects they have on sports performance. Review the planning and leading of sports activities
Key Activities / Homework Students will look at the arousal theories; Inverted U, Catastrophe, Drive and Reversal and link them to sporting situations and discuss the impact such theories can have in sport. Students will take part in theory based activities looking at SMARTER targets, goal setting and the creation of development plans. They will set themselves goals based on their own Leadership and discuss how to develop areas for improvement.
Assessments Students will be assessed within a controlled assessment project that will require them to produce a presentation outlining the impact of arousal and anxiety in sport. Students will be assessed through a controlled assessment report in which they will evaluate their own Leadership of a sports session.
