Environment and Medical Issues 

Students have knowledge and understanding of what is meant by environmental and medical issues and are confident using the keywords. Students know religious (Christian and Islamic) views about how the world was created and they know what this means to believers. They can reflect upon Christians and Muslim responses to issues concerning the environment such as stewardship, pollution, and medical ethics such as infertility treatments. They can use these religious teachings to influence their personal opinion.

Unit 8 Section 4

Crime and Punishment, Students have knowledge and understanding of theories of punishment and the arguments for and against them. They are able to articulate why justice is important to both Muslims and Christians. They can explain the nature of capital punishment, whilst exploring religious and non-religious arguments about it. They can talk about laws on drugs and alcohol and the reasons for them, moving onto explore how Christians and Muslims respond to issues around drugs and alcohol.

Rights and Responsibilities

Students have knowledge and understanding of rights and responsibilities both in a secular society and in a religious context (Christianity). The attitudes of Christians to rights and responsibilities and where these beliefs originate from. They can talk about where Christians get advice from and why it is important to involve yourself in a democratic process

Peace and Conflict Students have knowledge and understanding of the UN. They can explain the nature and theory of the Just War and explain Christian and Muslim attitudes to War. The can link these ideas to conflict in our lives such as bullying and arguments. They can explain Christian and Muslim teachings on forgiveness and reconciliation. They can talk about how religious organisations try to promote world peace.
