Term 1

Key Learning Objectives Learners will develop their knowledge about how computers work, looking at how computers communicate and the language of binary. Learners will then move on to develop their knowledge of Spread Sheets, creating a number of Spread Sheets to perform different tasks.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will undertake a variety of tasks developing understanding of Binary and Algorithms, the building blocks of computer programming. Learners will learn how to use algorithms and use them to solve a variety of problems. Learners will then undertake a variety of tasks to develop their Spread Sheet skills, these tasks will help to develop and test understanding of an extremely important computing skill. Homework will embed learning, testing understanding of the subject and the skills they have gained.

Assessment

Learners will complete a test to examine their understanding Binary and Algorithms. Learners will complete a test to examine their understanding of key Spread Sheet skills. Homework will embed learning, testing understanding of the subject and the skills they have gained.

Learners will have the opportunity to retake the test to improve their grade.

Term 2

Key Learning Objectives Learners will develop their understanding of web design, looking at the code used to create websites and then using their skills to create their own website.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will first develop their understanding of the html programming language; they will use this to create simple web sites. They will then learn how to use a web design application to create a more detailed website. Homework will embed learning, testing understanding of the subject and the skills learners have gained.

Assessment

Assessment of the web site; learners will have the opportunity to improve their work based on feedback from the teacher.

Term 3

Key Learning Objectives The final term will be spent on an extended project, further developing programming skills using the Scratch programming language.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will create a game using Scratch programming language. They will recap skills learnt in the previous year and will then build on them learning to create more complex code.

Homework will test learner understanding and develop key points.

Assessment

Assessment of game.

Learners will have the opportunity to improve work based on feedback.
