Music

Learners in Key Stage 3 are able to access a variety of musical experiences, from drumming, to rock music; from singing in harmony, to multi-tracking on industry standard software using our dedicated Apple Mac computers. The aim of Music at Bradford Academy is to give every Learner an experience of Music, both traditional, world and contemporary and allow all Learners to enjoy all aspects of the world of Music.

Term 1
Key Learning Objectives Learners will study The Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll. The term course looks at aspects of history, the creation of early popular music and how to create authentic Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll performances.
Key Activities / Homework Activities include: Class, group and solo singing, keyboard performances, use of rock band instruments. Access to music technology is available, and learners are encouraged to use the Apple Mac computers to record their work.
Assessments Assessed performances include Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll performances, improvisations and compositions. Access to music technology is available, and learners are encouraged to use the Apple Mac computers to record their work – using the Apple standard Garage band, and moving towards the industry standard Logic. Homework is set for each topic.
Suggest reading & support materials Learners can access their resources at any time through the school day, and are encouraged to practice: either at home or using the instruments within the department.

 

Term 2
Key Learning Objectives Learners look at popular song and musical theatre song composition through the study of, and composition of, superhero and musical theatre songs. Learners widen their singing repertoire and are given a range of performance opportunities through performance of a variety of songs, as well as further developing their music technology skills.
Key Activities / Homework Activities include: singing superhero and musical theatre songs, singing in harmony, group composition tasks and lyrics writing. Access to music technology is available, and learners are encouraged to use the Apple Mac computers to record their work – using the Apple standard Garage band, and moving towards the industry standard Logic. Homework is set for each topic.
Assessments Activities include: singing superhero and musical theatre songs, singing in harmony, group composition tasks and lyrics writing. Access to music technology is available, and learners are encouraged to use the Apple Mac computers to record their work.

Term 3
Key Learning Objectives Learners look at popular song structure through writing their own songs for Superheroes, as well as using music software to create their own arrangements and remixes.
Key Activities / Homework Access to music technology is available, and learners are encouraged to use the Apple Mac computers to record their work, as well as use the technology to create a remix of popular songs and mix that with different genres.
Assessments Learners are assessed via performance tasks and composition submission.
