Computing

Computing

Term 1

Key Learning Objectives Learners will develop their understanding of computer technology by looking at current trends in technology and what might be happening in the future.

They will then complete a project to further develop their knowledge of spread sheets, recapping their learning from previous years and applying these skills to create a more complex spread sheet.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will design and create a presentation to showcase a current trend in computing.

Learners will create a complex spread sheet.

Assessment

The presentation will be assessed and feedback given.

Learners will have the opportunity to improve the presentation using feedback.

Learners will complete an end of unit test to check their understanding of key spread sheet skills.

Learners will have the opportunity to retake the test to improve their grade.

Homework will embed learning, testing understanding of the subject and the skills that learners have gained.

Term 2

Key Learning Objectives Learners will develop their understanding of programming using a text based programming language called Python, exploring key computing terms and concepts such as sequence, selection, debugging, variables, strings, abstraction and decomposition.

Learners will then develop their understanding of computing, looking at Computational Thinking, further developing their understanding of Algorithms , decomposition and the use of algorithms in searches.

Key Activities / Homework Learners will develop a variety of Python programs developing a clear understanding of key programming concepts.

Learners will apply computational thinking to a variety of challenges, decomposing problems, developing solutions and testing them.

Homework will embed learning, testing understanding of the subject and the skills learners have gained.

Assessment

Assessment will be via an end of unit test for both these units.

Learners will have the opportunity to retake the test to improve their grade.
