I was educated at Belle Vue Boys’ Grammar School in Bradford; received an Honours Degree in Mathematics at Leeds University; and gained a teaching qualification at Hull University.
I returned to work at Belle Vue Boys’ School in 1968; working there for 35 years in roles including Mathematics Teacher, Head of Year, Deputy Headteacher and eventually becoming Headteacher of the school for 11 years.
I was then employed, for 3½ years, by Education Bradford, as an Education Consultant.
From 2006 to the present time, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work in different parts of the world as a self-employed Education Consultant.
I was part of the Cambridge Education Core Team, undertaking Quality Reviews and school improvement work in New York City and other parts of America for 4 years. I was then employed for 2 years by Cambridge Education in Florida on a project for improving School Principals’ skills in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of classroom practice in improving students’ learning.
From April 2013 to the present, I have been employed as an independent consultant by CfBT(now known as Educational Development Trust) leading and teaming in inspections in the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates.
I feel highly honoured to be asked to join the Bradford Academy Governing Body. Having spent a lifetime in education in different parts of the world, I hope to be able to support, along with all other Governors, the school, staff and pupils in achieving the best educational outcomes and positive lifetime opportunities for the young people in the school.
