Mary Fenton

Teacher of English and Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning

Having traversed a variety of career paths, I realised that I enjoyed teaching and working with young people. With a background in special educational needs, I re-trained as an English specialist. I joined Bradford Academy in 2009 and I have never looked back. The ethos of the school and the diverse nature of the learners fitted with my own personal values to ensure I felt at home. I became Head of the English Department, a subject that I feel passionately about, in 2016 and Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning in 2018.

In my role as Assistant Principal for teaching and learning, I lead on developing strategies to achieve whole school priorities and promote excellence, including whole-school literacy.  In addition, as the lead on our new, bespoke teacher-training programme, Teach BA, I facilitate the introduction of new professionals into our community.

My ambition for our learners is that they poignantly remember their school days as a time that they were safe and cared for by adults who had their best interests at heart. I hope they grow into the marvellous adults that they have the potential to be and achieve their aspirations.
