Resistant Materials

Our Curriculum Intent Statement

At Bradford Academy, resistant materials provides ALL learners with the opportunity to enjoy and realise success through the expression of creative, practical, technical and artistic skills. It is our aim to break barriers between traditional subject areas encouraging creativity and supporting diversity with the outcomes being innovation and motivated independent learning.  An understanding of the environmental impact of technology and global economies will reinforce this understanding in a modern and progressive context.

Our ambition is to provide opportunities to develop learners’ capability and creativity skills with the aim of promoting independent thought and ultimately learning.  We also encourage learners to take risks and so become more resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable young individuals.

By combining their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, learners will create high quality products. They will design and manufacture products that solve genuine, relevant problems within different contexts whilst considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

To do this effectively, they will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on additional disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.

Staff at all levels across the Academy feel genuinely supported and feel grateful to work in a high-trust environment where they will readily take risks. This impacts on the quality of learning and teaching thus enhancing student learning experiences.
