The secondary curriculum at Bradford Academy intends to:

  • Ensure that learners develop knowledge and skills that lead to academic success and future opportunities.
  • Create a culture of reading by maximising opportunities to read and broaden vocabulary during the school day and at home.
  • Provide a breadth of subjects and experiences so that every individual can find and nurture their strengths and talents.
  • Be ambitious for all of our learners by carefully planning for excellent achievement.
  • Make use of a sound evidence base to ensure that lessons and teaching techniques are effective.

At key stage three (years 7, 8 and 9) our learners study the full range of subjects which cover the entire national curriculum. Lessons and programmes of study are designed to be challenging and engaging, ensuring that learners have the knowledge and skills for progression to key stage four. Learners who are working below their age related expectations when they arrive in Y7 will be provided with additional support with a personalised programme.

At key stage three, the weekly timetable is created from the following subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • RE
  • Geography
  • History
  • Spanish
  • Art, Design and Technology
  • PE
  • IT
  • Music

In year 10 and 11 learners begin their GCSE studies. They are able to personalise their key stage 4 study programme with two option subjects. Their weekly timetable comprises of the options plus these core compulsory subjects:

  • Maths
  • English (Language and Literature)
  • Science (Double GCSE)
  • Spanish (for almost all learners)
  • Religious Studies short course (some learners will complete the full GCSE course)
  • PE

Learners will also choose to specialise in Geography or History.

The options subjects we offer are:

  • Triple Science
  • Enterprise
  • Health and Social Care
  • Computer Science
  • IT
  • Health and Fitness
  • Art (Fine Art, Art 3D or Textiles)
  • Hospitality
  • Music
  • Performing Arts (Dance or Drama)
