Careers Education
We seek to create a careers programme that positively supports our learners to develop and equip them with the employability skills necessary for lifelong success in the ever-changing world of work. Our focus is to ensure learners do not become NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). We use the Gatsby Benchmarks as a guide to planning our CIEAG programme. We are committed to informing our learners of the full range of employment, learning and training pathways available to them. Alongside employers, we organise for HE establishments, training, apprenticeship and vocational education providers to engage with our learners throughout the year.
Implementation
We provide learners with weekly information about specific careers that include local labour market information. These ‘Careers of the Week’ are discussed as part of the ‘Rituals’ session during Form Time. The different careers are also displayed on the plasma screens around school for the week.
Through PSHE we will look at LMI trends, laws within the work place, guidance about how to select a career and develop an understanding of employability skills.
During one of the Form Time modules we will deliver Careers based units such as Yr.9 Options processes and in Yr. 10 & 11 how to access FE/apprenticeship information and how to complete applications. P16 will explore the UCAS application process and applications for apprenticeships as part of their CORE and PSHE programmes.
Across the year through assemblies, context events and trips learners will experience places of work and have opportunities to talk to people in various industries as they learn about different work sectors.
Examples of role models will be shared through each subject along with typical careers that link to specific subjects through displays and discussions.
All KS4 and 5 learners will receive an individualised guidance interview with the Careers Advisor
All learners will have access to a section of our LRC that has relevant information about college courses, apprenticeships and jobs as well as the online platform Unifrog. Learners in year 9,11 and P16 will have access to the careers fair in preparation for applying next step destinations.
