Personal Development

The Personal Development Curriculum centres around creating learners’ attitudes to that they can live out the school’s Christian Vision of:
‘Responsibility, Respect, Resilience a shining light in our community –
You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden.’
Mathew 5:14
Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also includes challenges and risks. In this environment, children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way. Our aim is to develop skills and attributes such as responsibility, respect and resilience in order to be a shining light in the community. We do this by using the statutory guidance linked to personal development and use local, regional and national information to help inform our curriculum so that we can meet the needs of the young people who we serve.
At Bradford Academy, we are proud to support all children to develop social awareness; strength of character; acceptance of others; and academic confidence. Personal Development is not an added extra – it is woven through all we do. Through every interaction; every lesson; every event; every worship we try to maximise every opportunity to discuss topics and explore opinion. This will prepare children for the wider world so that they can have a strong sense of purpose and belonging, and so that they have the confidence to make their voices heard and make informed choices.
Our core aims are:
- To develop individuals who are respectful, responsible and resilient and encourage them to be a shining light in their community.
- To prepare learners for their next steps and be active citizens in modern Britain who live out the British Values.
- To give our learners the knowledge and tools they need to understand how to take care of themselves, physically and mentally, and how they can stay safe and thrive in an ever-changing world.
- To embed a curriculum across the school that goes beyond just academic subjects that nurtures children and develops their interests and talents.
- To equip children to flourish as individuals by providing them with opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, morally and culturally.
