Year 6 SATs

This page will provide you with useful information about SATs taken by our Year 6 pupils.

It is important to help your child understand that the tests are not designed to be upsetting or to cause distress. If you have any worries or concerns about the tests, feel free to speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be able to help you further.

SATs Timetable

Booster Groups

Boosters will take place on a Monday 3:15-4pm. Pupils will be invited to attend booster groups in each half term.

Grades

Grammar and Spellings	Scaled Score Less than 100 = Working towards 100 – 109 = Year 6 Expected Standard 110+ = Greater Depth
Reading	Scaled Score Less than 100 = Working towards 100 – 109 = Year 6 Expected Standard 110+ = Greater Depth
Writing	Graded from outcomes in children’s work Working Towards Expected Standard Expected Standard Greater Depth

How to support your child

It is essential that you support your child throughout this year in order to give them the best chance in their SATS. You can do this by:

Reading with your child and asking questions about what they have read at least 4 times a week. This could be looking at the characters or any new vocabulary they have read.
Ensuring the children are handing in their homework on time. If they are struggling, encourage them to come and tell an adult before the deadline. We will be able to help!
Keep challenging children’s vocabulary. Check their understanding of new and unknown words.
Attendance – Encourage children to attend as much as possible. Every minute is precious and essential.

Although we want pupils to succeed in their SATS and reach their full potential, we want them to remain happy and healthy children. Please have a look at the information below to ensure that you are able to help your child throughout SATS to ensure that they are not feeling stressed.

Children will receive weekly homework on a Friday.

Maths and English Practise

IXL have separate pages of skills linked to individual Year group. The Y6 page has links to practise both English and Maths skills. Pages are then split into skills of which has a practise question for the children to think about.

BBC Education have produced a whole host of materials for KS2. Follow the KS2 link and then select either Maths or English. Each area usually has an information section for reading, plus an activity and then quiz which is marked online. Some aspects require a subscription.
