We aim to provide learners with the opportunity to develop key characteristics that will enable them to become active citizens and contribute to the school and wider community. Each week our learners have a Form Time session dedicated to developing aspects of this. he Sporting Elite programme is designed to stretch our most promising sports students at Bradford Academy. The programme aims to teach learners that are part of this group skills such as leadership and motivation. The time together provides an opportunity to work with people from different sporting backgrounds to develop a wider understand of different sports. This programme raises aspirations for our students so that they may strive to be the best sports performers they can be Students selected for this programme will participate in one extra sporting elite session per week and be given the opportunity to attend a wide range of external visits.
There are a range of leadership opportunities for students across the academy. These give learners an opportunity to develop their confidence, collaboration, organisation and responsibility. Every year group has a team of student leaders including two year leaders and nine form representatives. All learners will be given the opportunity to apply for these roles and undergo a process with their Form Tutor or Head of Year. These learners attend regular meetings as a team and focus on initiating change or discussing any issues shared by their year group. The team will also have chances to lead assemblies with their year group and attend leadership events with other year groups.
The Scholars’ programme is designed to stretch our most able and hard-working students at Bradford Academy. Scholars aims to teach learners that are part of this group skills such as leadership, motivation and cultural and social awareness. This programme raises aspirations for our students so that they may strive for the best universities and develop a love for learning. Students selected for this programme will participate in one Scholars Seminar per week and be given the opportunity to attend a wide range of external visits.
Bradford Academy has a strong tradition in offering learners the opportunity to participate in this programme. It is offered to KS4 and 5 learners and is a great way to develop key traits such as communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork. Each year group has a charity they choose to fundraise for. Over the year, all learners get a chance to participate in and organise fundraising events with their tutor group or as part of the student led charity committee to raise money and awareness for this cause. It is a great way to develop an awareness of world issues, develop a culture of helping others and generate a strong community spirit. Being generous does not have to be limited to the giving of money, we promote the giving of time by rewarding leaners who volunteer their time to help others, through our positive reward system and their efforts go towards our annual volunteering challenge.
