Lucy Smail

Assistant Principal - Personal Development & Quality Assurance

I graduated from Leeds University with a Bachelor of Arts and began my career in education as a music teacher. My passion for the subject and commitment to students’ success led me to becoming Head of Music, where I enjoyed nurturing creativity and achievement across the department.

For the past six years, I have served as an Assistant Principal, leading on exams and assessment, curriculum and timetabling, and whole-school logistics. These responsibilities have given me a deep understanding of how to ensure that every student’s learning journey is well-structured, purposeful, and supported by strong systems.

In September 2025, I was delighted to join Bradford Academy as an Assistant Principal. In my current role, I lead on Personal Development and Quality Assurance across the academy, ensuring that our provision not only meets high standards but also supports the growth of confident, resilient, and ambitious young people.

I am passionate about ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education that enables them to reach their individual potential. My focus is on creating opportunities, removing barriers, and fostering an environment where every learner can thrive academically and personally
